Course Introduction

Mindfulness and Yoga in the Classroom aims to teach participants basic, effective mindfulness and yoga techniques that they may apply to promote their own and their students’ well-being. The topic of the day will be covered through a combination of exercises and practical tasks each day. Participants will learn yoga positions with efficient breathing techniques to relax the mind, as well as mindfulness tips to share with their students.

Teachers on this 5 day, 20 hour programme will take part in tutorials and learn yoga methods as daily subjects are developed, as well as course and lesson preparation and group discussions. On two afternoons teachers will embark on local cultural activities accompanied by their Future Learning teacher giving them the opportunity to learn about Irish culture and heritage during their stay.

It is important to note that Mindfulness and Yoga in the Classroom is only available at Future Learning’s Athlone Campus and takes place on the following dates this summer:

  • 25/07/2022 Athlone only*

*Teachers are welcome to combine this programme with Mindfulness and Meditation in the Classroom that also takes place in Athlone on

  • 18/07/2022
  • 01/08/2022

    Learner Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will have

    • learned simple practical yoga and mindfulness techniques for use in a language classroom
    • developed a toolkit of simple mindfulness techniques to support their own and their students’ well-being
    • become confident in using short simple yoga sequences with their students
    • understood how these techniques can help us to be more present with our students, and create a happier class atmosphere and better learning outcomes, by improving class relationships, attention and helping students be better prepared for learning.

    Mindfulness in the Classroom

My course at school was not just to learn a new language, but to learn new cultures, people and do things I had never done before. All of this is a very interesting concept that made me learn much more than I expected. I can say that my time at Future Learning was a great experience for me!
